01Set the foundation

• Define products and prices in your processor, such as Stripe BillingBuilding your own scheduler means reimplementing deep, regulated money logic with no upside.
• Let the processor run recurring charges, proration, tax and retriesThis math is easy to get subtly wrong, and providers have already solved it.
• Store each customer's subscription status and plan in your databaseWithout stored state, your app has nothing reliable to read access from.
• Update that state on every subscription webhook, including deletionsMissing an update leaves canceled customers served or paying customers locked out.
• Grant features from stored state, never from the checkout eventA paid flag set at checkout gives you no clean way to revoke access when a customer cancels or stops paying.
